The week before my twenty-first birthday I was an unorganised mess : my best friend had yet to return from a month in Ibiza, I had nothing to wear and worst of all my makeup artist pulled out last minute leaving me to run around Manchester frantically trying to find somebody to do it.

After some serious searching I was put in touch with Janine Dixon an amazing freelance makeup artist who previously worked for Mac for ten years, she now co-owns ArtisteCreative makeup and is absolutely brilliant. Now after looking at Artiste Creative's instagram ( artistemakeup ) I was already expecting great things, however what Janine did ended up being absolutely amazing.

Using products mainly by Motives Cosmetics with a smattering of Mac thrown in she created a lovely smokey eyed look complete with contour and fantastic eyebrows that really suited my complexion and eye color. I received so many compliments both from family, friends and strangers on my night out and it absolutely made my day knowing it was so well done.

The entire look cost £40, which included false eyelashes that I was able to keep ( and have since worn several times over ) and the makeup stayed on from when Janine completed it at around 3pm to when I stumbled through my front door at almost 6am. She was an absolute pleasure to talk to, and I would happily recommend her to anyone for any special occasion.

About a week ago my best friend and I were about to partake in some serious retail therapy when we decided it would be wise to head for a spot of lunch first. Now us being the proper northern girls that we are, our lunch had to involve copious amounts of tea. So after a brief bit of uhmming and aahing we decided to head over to Teacup Kitchen in Manchester's very up and coming Northern Quarter.

We went around two-ish and although it was a fairly busy day, we were seated right away and had a brief but lovely chat with the chap who served us before we had a nosy at the menu. In the end we ordered the Pork & Spiced Fig Chutney sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries ( which were absolutely delicious ) and washed them down with copious amounts of English Breakfast tea - refills of which to our delight were free!

Once our plates had been cleared we turned our attention to the massive array of gorgeous cakes on offer, and after some serious deliberation plumped for the Pistachio Cake it was bright green and possibly one of the nicest things I have ever tasted although I must say my best friend and I were torn between this or the rainbow cake. In total it cost around £25 for the pair of us, and I would have happily paid more. I can't fault Teacup Kitchen for their fast service, tasty food and generally lovely atmosphere. We will gladly return to try more of their cakes and perhaps broaden our horizons some more with their huge assortment of loose leaf tea.

p.s - I love little mementos from cute days out with people, my best friend bought me this amazing cup & straw from Urban Outfitters and they we stumbled across a photo booth. Please excuse our total failure at figuring out where the camera was, we had a ball taking them!

So it's official, in the world of retail and clothing the summer season is drawing to a close. The sale racks are nearly empty and we're spending our shifts excitedly putting out the new autumn lines.

The approach of autumn to me means only one thing : layers. As a naturally cold person there's nothing I love more than wrapping up warm in a huge jacket and heading off out into the world. So you can imagine my delight when I spotted this gorgeous Pink Waterfall Jacket  ( £65 ) in Next.

Something about this coat appeals to the 1960s lover inside me; it's fuzzy, oversized and yet still remains glamorous. It makes me nostalgic for the coats my nan used to wear when I was younger.

AW14 is set to see more of a sixties vibe amongst our high street, with a mix of feminine and mod style pieces. Personally I can't wait to shop this trend, I've already got a list as long as my arm and will be rocking my wonderful new coat with the best beehive I can muster and some serious lipstick.

As any fashion loving girl with a smart phone will tell you, Depop is THE must have app for buying and selling clothes. Having lost a sizeable amount of weight in the past five months I decided to have a sort through my wardrobe and realised I own so many beautiful pieces that I just don't wear. This meant that it was finally time for me to give Depop a go, so feel free to pop onto my profile and snap yourself up some bargains. There are plenty of lovely bits from Topshop, H&M, Forever21 and Vans : nothing is above £20 and all parcels will be sent Royal Mail first class post. Everything is around a size 14 or 16 although some will fit other sizes, all shoes listed are currently a size 7.

Feel free to contact me if you see anything you fancy, and I am open to offers. Apologies to my lovely readers for my rather long hiatus from blogging. Second year of university has turned out to be a lot more work than I expected, and with the end of exams comes a flood of ideas for posts. So keep your eyes peeled as I will be back with a vengeance.

So as I mentioned way back in November I got a job working for one of my all time favourite retail brands - Next , and after being there for almost four months I'm thoroughly settled in and getting the hang of styling outfits that are on trend and work ready. What I like about my job is that you really are welcomed into the company with open arms, upon starting I was given every bit of help I needed and more. I work in a relatively small store in comparison to most branches and as a result of this I've had the luxury of trying my hand at a lot of different things. As this is my first job within retail where there is no fixed uniform or strict dress code it has been an adventure learning how to wear the brand's clothes in a way that shows off the new seasons styles whilst adding my own flair.

Luckily for me I absolutely love tailored clothing, and that is something that Next excels in. I managed to snag myself this beautiful black blazer  ( £35 ) that hugs your figure perfectly and can easily go from workwear to a smart addition to a sophisticated night's outfit with just a few tweaks. I tend to style this piece with a pair of the classic black slim fit jeans ( £20 ), a flat heeled boot  ( £68 )  and a colourful top from the spring collection : my favourite being this ( £18 )  whilst accessorising solely with this chunky rose gold watch ( £25 ) . What I love about Next is just how diverse their range of clothing is, there is literally something for everybody and my favourite part of working for them is the sheer range in customers I get to work with. In addition to this for anybody who is new to the store they make some of the best and affordable wardrobe staples money can buy : I've been a return purchaser of their jeans since I was about fifteen and their shoes not only look gorgeous but are durable and hard wearing. ( not to mention that over christmas they sold some of the coolest onesies going

Makeup wise on a normal workday I tend to keep things fairly minimal, on a busy day there can be a lot of dashing about and nothing feels worse than a thick coat of foundation when you're sweating like mad. I like to keep my base dewy so usually go for Chanel Vitalumiere in B20, add a few coats of Loreal's Lash Architect in Noir and then tie it all together with a bright & bold lip - normally either MUA'S Velvet Lip Lacquer in Atomic or Mac's Russian Red. As I wear my glasses during most shifts there doesn't seem much point in faffing around with fancy lidwork.

As a beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogger it's a lot of fun working for a company like Next, as a self confessed home furnishings obsessor I spend so many of my breaks flicking through the home catalogue and crossing off things I can buy with my wage ( my mother already has a full to bursting wishlist ). I'm really pleased to have become a member of such a lovely store and I am looking forward to styling many more outfits on this blog.

* all clothing items & accessories mentioned are by Next and are currently available both online and in store. I was neither asked to nor sponsored to write this post and as such all opinions stated are my own.
